Homemade Mac and Cheese

Mom's mac and cheese traveled with us from North Carolina to New York. We happily ate it for dinner with a can of collard greens that we embellished with some bacon from a neighborhood Polish meat market.

This is the last of the home cooking that was cooked by someone else that we'll eat for a long time. I really hate it when the holidays are over.

Forgot

Last night's dinner was roasted chicken, rice, and green beans. Forgot to take a photo. Also, I'm at my in-laws and would love to avoid explaining that I'm taking a picture of what I eat for dinner every night then blogging about it. Embarrassing

Leftover Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes left over from last night's dinner. Warmed them up, added cheddar cheese and fresh parsley. Lots of parsley, since it was the only green I would eat all day.

Smoked Whiting

Smoked whiting, cream cheese, and scallions on a bagel. The whiting was right out of the smoker at Acme, our neighborhood fish-smoking factory. They sell wholesale to the public on Fridays from 8-1.

This Friday the line was out the door, I guess because it was the Friday before Christmas and Hanukkah. I met the neighborhood psychiatrist while we waited in line. He was very chatty, like I imagine anyone who listened to people talk about themselves all day would be.

Bean Tacos

Tacos with black beans, cheddar cheese, shredded cabbage, guacamole, sriracha, chips and salsa. This is the aftermath--a second helping for C after we ran out of tortillas.

Dessert: gingerbread men shipped USPS from Mom.

Homemade Sushi

Sushi, homemade. We learned how here. We used cucumber, avocado, green onion, carrot, cream cheese, and smoked salmon. C made some inside-out rolls for the first time, with rice on the outside of the seaweed.
